J.G. Henges had his family business, Midwest Insulation & Supply Co., incorporated in 1932. It became a successful and diversified building specialty contractor by 1940, when it was renamed Henges Company Inc.

The St. Louis and Kansas City markets for insulation grew quickly during the 40s and Henges saw great success. Henges handed his business down to two sons, who divided the company into two separate businesses in March 1969. After 23 years in construction, J.G. Henges Jr. purchased the Henges Interiors Division, which was already well-known in St. Louis and Kansas City. The Porta-King Division also began operation in 1969 and has expanded immensely. Henges Interiors was renamed Jay Henges Enterprises Inc. and currently owns many successful divisions and branches, including Henges Insulation & Fireplaces in Olathe, Kan.

The Porta-King Division began as ParKing and produced preassembled buildings. In 1974, it began producing the Panel King System, a curtain-wall system for partitions and buildings too large to ship preassembled. This system was discarded and replaced with the Pivot Lock System in 1977. The professionals at Porta-King have continued to devise product improvements and successful modular systems. A Porta-King plant in Montgomery City, Mo., went into full production in 1990 and added Durasteel preassembled buildings to Porta-King’s product line. Porta-King now offers a wide range of prefabricated building systems, providing shelter and storage solutions for virtually any working environment. Jay Henges Enterprises is unquestionably a leader in the portable and modular building industry. Porta-King supplies many of the U.S. Government security booths and serves industrial and commercial customers nationwide.

Along with its success with Porta-King, Jay Henges Enterprises is a leader in residential flooring in St. Louis and in insulation in both Kansas City and St. Louis. Henges Interiors in St. Louis offers insulation, flooring and closet shelving services. Henges Insulation & Fireplaces in Kansas City offers insulation, fireplace and closet shelving services. Our services have continued to expand based on industry trends and energy concerns in the Midwest. Flooring and insulation contracting are extremely competitive, but good management and prudent investments have earned Jay Henges Enterprises leadership in the areas it serves.
