Building To Increase Household Energy Efficiency

Windows and doors work alongside heating and cooling systems and home insulation to increase household energy efficiency. Windows, doors, exterior vents, etc., are all part of what is known as the “house envelope.” The stronger the house envelope the greater the energy efficiency and cost savings. Energy-efficient windows can help maximize the performance of your home’s insulation, just as a good heating and cooling system can help regulate indoor air trapped by the house envelope and insulation. The new Kansas City Homes & Lifestyles Boulevard of Dreams Green Living Show Home demonstrates the benefits of building to increase energy efficiency with components such as double-pane, low-E glass windows. Eco-friendly insulation such as Green Fiber can add another layer of eco-consciousness to your house.

Heating with Flex-fuels

By now, we’re all aware that using renewable energy sources is the most ideal way to heat our homes. However, choosing the right appliance can prove to be somewhat of a difficult task, especially when it comes to heating with flex-fuels. All products are not created equally and researching your options is the answer to making sure you choose the best product to meet your needs.

According to the MagnuM Heat Blog, most manufacturers of flex-fuel appliances have informative websites that explain each product’s features. For instance, some companies manufacture appliances that only burn one type of fuel, while others have multi-fuel capabilities, like the MagnuM Country Flame stove. Flex fuel stoves such as the MagnuM Country Flame allow you to choose the type of fuel that is best suited for your area, most available, and easiest on your pocketbook.

We would be happy to answer your questions about flex fuel heating appliances. Give us a call at 913-764-4600, visit our website, or stop by and see us. We are located at 15640 South Keeler in Olathe!

What R-Value Insulation Do I Need?

What R-Value Insulation Do I Need? When choosing insulation, you need to determine the overall R-value of the insulation you need for your home. The definition of R-value according to the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association is the resistance to heat flow, therefore:

The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. Thickness of insulation is only one factor that determines its R-value. In fact, insulation should always be specified by R-value, not thickness.

To find out the R-value of the insulation you need for your new or existing home, try this Zip Code calculator or see this R-value table from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Direct Vent Fireplaces

We are no longer servicing or installing fireplaces. Please call us for a recommendation.

At Henges Insulation & Fireplaces we carry a large variety of fireplaces (direct vent, B-vent, wood burning, outdoor and electric).

direct vent

Direct vent fireplaces are one of Henges Insulation & Fireplaces’ most popular fireplace models, and it’s easy to see why. A direct vent fireplace burns so efficiently that it can be vented directly out a wall rather than through a traditional chimney and vent system.

With authentic-looking gas log fires, many homeowners are taking advantage of the convenience of a direct vent fireplace, while enjoying the ambiance of a traditional wood-burning fire too.

We professionally install Majestic fireplaces, Vermont Castings fireplaces and stoves, and Country Flame flex fuel stoves and wood burning fireplaces. We look forward to helping you choose a hearth product that meets your needs and preferences.

KC Fireplace Repair

We are no longer servicing or installing fireplaces. Please call us for a recommendation.

In addition to being a home insulation company, we also excel in fireplace repair. Our experience includes everything from gas fireplace repair to free-standing heat sources such as wood and coal stoves. For home insulation and fireplace repair in Kansas City, Henges Insulation & Fireplaces is the company to call.

gas fireplace repair

To prevent dangerous home fires or carbon monoxide deaths in buildings, you need expert fireplace repair from our qualified technicians. As fuel burns inside a fireplace’s firebox, the ashes float up leaving particles and soot that create a layer of flammable creosote. We use specialized tools such as long handled brushes and heavy-duty vacuums to scrape creosote layers from the interior of chimneys.  At the same time, we can replace broken parts inside the devices to ensure your home passes local safety codes. A yearly fireplace inspection by knowledgeable technicians is recommenced to inspect the device’s firebox and chimney for buildup of debris that can block dangerous smoke. In addition to indoor fireplace repair in Kansas City, we climb on a building’s rooftop to inspect for damage on exterior surfaces that can block deadly carbon monoxide emissions.

Our main goal is to make sure that you are satisfied with your fireplace. We will do everything that we can to give you the best service possible. We not only want you to use our company again, but we also want you to refer your family members and friends to our company.
