2011 Tax Credits and Local Incentives for Energy Savings

Although the federal tax credit for certain energy-efficient upgrades has been reduced for 2011, you can still save a bundle and be eco-friendly too by taking advantage of local incentives for energy savings as well as the new federal tax credits. Remember, making energy-efficient upgrades is almost always a cost-effective decision, even without incentives!

Federal tax credits beginning this year and going through 2016 will be limited to a maximum of $500 in lifetime savings for upgrading your home with things like biomass stoves and insulation. All the products qualifying for tax credits in 2010 still qualify.

However Missouri Gas Energy and Kansas City Power & Light are offering up to $1200 dollars in bill credits for an energy audit and qualified energy-efficient home improvements. Henges Insulation & Fireplaces in Olathe, Kan., is a certified contractor capable of performing a comprehensive home performance assessment or energy audit to qualify you for these savings.

Heating Fuel: A New Use for Corn

Corn is catching on! The National Corn Growers Association promotes the use of corn as heating fuel in a recent post on its blog, “Corn Commentary.” The post discusses the widespread use of corn as fuel in Michigan and how that state’s corn growers have connected with a developing consumer base interested in heating with corn.

Henges Insulation has joined the alternative energy movement by offering corn-burning, biomass, and flex-fuel stoves. These eco-friendly stoves not only decrease our dependence on foreign oil and are better for the environment, but they can also save you money on your heating bills.

Check out this story about how one family made the switch to a versatile flex-fuel stove, and contact Henges in Olathe, Kan., for more information.
