Housing starts showed a significant decline in 2009

The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (HBA) compiles reports and statistics about the housing market in the KC area each year. In 2009, the KC metro permitted the construction of 3,651 total housing units, down from 5,062 in 2008, a decrease of 28 percent. The amount of single-family units constructed in 2009 declined by 36 percent. Multifamily rental construction declined 11 percent, though showed a significant rebound in December.
