Wall Insulation for Kansas City Home and Businesses

Wall Insulation is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to make your home more energy efficient. Insulation levels are specified by R-Value. R-Value is a measure of insulation’s ability to resist heat traveling through it. The higher the R-Value the better the thermal performance of the insulation.

Wall Insulation:

There are several kinds of insulation you can use in your walls. Each has its own unique benefits. A Henges insulation expert can answer any questions you may have in more detail. But, here is a quick explanation of each to get you started.

Batted or Rolled Insulation:

Batted insulation (also referred to as rolled insulation) is made of fiberglass strands that are molded together into specific thicknesses (generally 6-12 inches) and widths to fit standard stud and joist spacing. Most often the fiberglass is attached to a sheet of Kraft paper to make it easier to work with and rolled (hence the name). Batted insulation is best suited for areas without a lot of obstructions. Fiberglass batt insulation is popular because it is fairly inexpensive.

Blown-In Insulation:

Blown-in insulation (also called BIBS for Blow-In Blanket System) is loose-fill insulation that can be made of fiberglass or cellulose. The BIB System is a patented process that ensures that even odd-sized wall cavities are filled with densely-packed insulation. Its ability to conform makes it best for adding insulation to areas that are finished, irregularly shaped, or have lots of obstructions. The BIB System creates a higher R-value than batt insulation, and reduces the infiltration of air and noise into the wall space. Our insulation specialists are specially trained BIBS installers

Spray Foam Insulation:

Spray foam insulation (sometimes called liquid foam) is liquid foam that is sprayed in place. This liquid then expands to fill the space and hardens in place. The biggest advantage to spray foam insulation is that it can fill even the smallest cavities creating an air barrier as well as insulating. Installation requires special equipment and certification and should be done by experienced installers. Spray foam costs more than traditional batt or BIBS, but offers higher R-values. Additionally, it creates an air barrier, which can eliminate other costs such as caulking, applying house wrap and vapor barrier, and taping joints.
